In Los Angeles there is a building with a cast-iron staircase and a glass roof. The chase at the end of Blade Runner takes place there. Chinatown stops by, and so does The Artist. That staircase can almost build a scene on its own: someone climbing, someone looking up from below, the empty space between them. Some places pull the camera toward them.
