Buñuel's Viridiana was banned by the Franco regime; it was shown in Spain only after the dictatorship ended. Askoldov's film waited on the shelf for twenty years and reached the screen only during glasnost. When Güney's Yol was legally screened in Turkey for the first time, its director had been dead for a long time. These films reached audiences in their own countries like a letter that always arrives too late.
Viridiana, de Buñuel, fue prohibida por el franquismo y solo se proyectó en España cuando terminó la dictadura. La película de Askoldov esperó veinte años en un estante y llegó a las pantallas durante la glásnost. Cuando Yol, de Güney, se proyectó legalmente por primera vez en Turquía, su director llevaba mucho tiempo muerto.
