There are four stops in this room. The first is Peries and the founding: in the fifties a director took the camera out of the studio and into the village, and the national cinema began there. The second is the civil war — but the war began in 1983 and the first major war film was made only fourteen years later. The third is the new generation: directors who arrived in the seventies and made class, gender and experiment their subjects. The last is the present.
