Erdem's world is built on sound. Before we enter a place we hear it: insects, wind, water, an engine running somewhere off. The image arrives afterwards and often does not confirm what the sound said, adding a second layer instead.
El mundo de Erdem se construye sobre el sonido. Antes de entrar en un lugar lo oímos: insectos, viento, agua, un motor que suena a lo lejos. La imagen llega después y a menudo no confirma lo que dijo el sonido: añade una segunda capa.
Zaman onda bir amaca doğru akmaz. Karakterler bir şey beklemez, bir yere varmaz; bir süre boyunca orada olurlar. Çocuk ve ergen figürlerini bu yüzden çok kullanıyor: yetişkin anlatısı yürür, çocuk kalır ve dünyayı ölçer.
Time does not flow towards a purpose in his work. The characters wait for nothing and arrive nowhere; they are simply there for a while. This is why he uses children and adolescents so often: an adult narrative walks, a child stays and measures the world.
En su obra el tiempo no fluye hacia un propósito. Los personajes no esperan nada ni llegan a ninguna parte; simplemente están allí un rato. Por eso usa tanto a niños y adolescentes: el relato adulto camina, el niño se queda y mide el mundo.
